Yes, this is where it all began for the San Antonio Rodeo. Although the vent has now grown so large it’s been moved to larger facilities, the San Antonio Stock and Rodeo show first burst on to the scene at historic Freeman Coliseum. It is still an active part of the rodeo, hosting many of the smaller events associated with that great celebration.

As the city of San Antonio has prospered, the Freeman Coliseum has kept up the pace right along with the city. After spawning the San Antonio Rodeo, Freeman coliseum became a prime location for concerts and family shows. Famous visitors to Freeman Coliseum include Elvis Presley, the Harlem Globetrotters, KISS, the popular boys group Menudo. Entering the new millennium, the Freeman Coliseum is attracting a new generation of performers like Bush and Green Day, while still offering a full schedule of events appealing to every taste in entertainment.

Today the growth and versatility continues. In the early 90’s the Freeman Coliseum was enhanced to allow the introduction of ice shows and professional hockey, hosting the San Antonio Iguanas. For the sports minded, you’ll remember Freeman Coliseum as a major part of the NCAA Final Four and WWF Wrestling.

Freeman Coliseum is an essential part of San Antonio history. But more than that, Freeman Coliseum continues to make history in San Antonio, always evolving and adapting, yet retaining it’s original appeal while drawing generation after generation to its seats.
