Majestic Theater

Majestic Theater

The Majestic Theater is a major San Antonio landmark. When it was built in 1929 the Majestic Theater was designed to be striking and outstanding. The architect, John Ebersen, hit the nail on the head and the Majestic Theater still stands out today as one of the most unique buildings in San Antonio. Ebersen went all out, drawing on the Spanish influence of Texas history and the influence of Eastern design to create an unforgettable structure. Entire walls are constructed of glass. The ceiling overhead recreates a starlit night. Arches, balconies, and sculpture abound and it’s difficult to find a single square inch of the building that is not decorated in some fashion.

Majestic Theater History

Added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1975 was a turning point for the Majestic Theater. In the years prior, the building had fallen into neglect. But a major renovation has now restored the Majestic Theater to its former glory and the venue is as close to original as possible while employing the latest in sound and lighting. No detail was spared, and even the seats and carpet were specially woven to recreate the original atmosphere of this San Antonio gem.

Today, the Majestic Theater boasts a full schedule of concerts and theater productions. Performers ranging from the San Antonio Symphony to productions by Broadway in San Antonio to Jerry Seinfeld,Tony Bennett, and other contemporary entertainers grace the stage. The Majestic Theater is truly one of the most beautiful and memorable buildings you’ll ever experience.
